UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany (Fully Funded)
Applications are now open for the UN Nippon Foundation Training Program 2025 in Germany. This fully funded 9-month program will take place in Hamburg, Germany, from 7th July 2025 to 31st March 2026. The program is aimed at individuals from developing countries working on maritime law, the law of the sea, or dispute resolution. The goal is to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in dispute settlement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Additionally, participants will visit several European countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and Germany. The Nippon Foundation covers all participant expenses, including travel, accommodation, insurance, and a stipend.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be from developing countries
- Age: 25-40 years old
- Must have a law degree and demonstrated research capacity
- Junior to mid-level government officials (ocean affairs/maritime law) or researchers (ocean/maritime legal issues)
- Applicants must propose a relevant research topic for their country’s UNCLOS implementation
- Nominations should detail the applicant’s role and how the training will benefit their institution/state
- Language Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of English or French, and working knowledge of the other (English is the primary language of instruction)
