The University of Exeter Business School is accepting applications for the Teaching PhD Bursaries in Economics or Finance. The studentship has been established for the academic year 2022-2023 in the UK.

This educational award is a generous funding scheme designed to support the most talented students who wish to complete a PhD in Finance or Economics. Successful applicants first receive funding to complete one of the University of Exeter Business School’s Research Masters MRes, which provides a rigorous foundation in the required skills to conduct high-quality research. Students who meet the PhD entry criteria will then receive funding for full-time study in one of the University of Exeter Business School’s PhD programmes.

Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in Economics or Finance pathway complete the two-year MRes in economics, which prepares students for a PhD in an area requiring a strong grounding in econometrics (e.g., economics or finance). Decisions on PhD topics and supervision will be made towards the end of the MRes, giving students plenty of time to explore a range of topics and to meet the faculty.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Must be an International Students
  • The scholarship requires that students work as teaching or research assistants for 23 days (180 hours) a year.
  • This is a valuable part of your training and will ensure that you graduate as a highly-skilled researcher and educator from the Business School. The Programme is run on a full-time basis only, and students are expected to live in Exeter.
  • Students complete the MRes + PhD programme within four or five years
  • Orientation for new students takes place in mid-September 2022

  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide an essay of no more than 750 words maximum explaining.
  • A CV of no more than two pages
  • The official transcript or certified copy of university grades from all past degree
  • Two academic reference letters (one must be from your most recent institution)
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, with a final grade in the top 10% of your graduating class. Most incoming students also hold a Master’s degree.
  • Language Requirement: If relevant, valid, original Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Cambridge scores report.

Benefits

The university will provide all the funds:

  • Annual total (i.e., remuneration + stipend): £19,000.The scholarship is for a maximum of 5 years.Full tuition fees at UK/International fee rate
  • Remuneration for 180 hours teaching: £3,097 (2022/23 rate, subject to tax & National Insurance)
  • Annual stipend: £15,903 (2022/23 rate)
